Known globally for her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 1990, O’Connor had an extensive music career, releasing 10 studio albums. Her first album, “The Lion and the Cobra,” was introduced to the world in 1987.

But it wasn’t just her music that put O’Connor in the spotlight, her political activism left a mark too. A notable moment from 1992, saw her rip up a photograph of Pope John Paul II on the US show ‘Saturday Night Live’, while performing Bob Marley’s “War.” The act was a protest against the child sexual abuse scandals involving members of the Catholic Church. When later asked about it, she said she had no regrets, labeling the incident as “brilliant.”

Her activism wasn’t limited to Irish or Catholic issues. Following the 2014 war on Gaza, in which over 2,000 Palestinians lost their lives, O’Connor canceled a concert in Caesarea, Israel. She explained her decision, stating that any sane person would sympathize with the Palestinian cause.
