Human Rights Advocate from Assam wins Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship

Human Rights Advocate Aman Wadud wins Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship. This fellowship is given to Indians who pursue a master’s degree in US colleges and Universities. This also includes many other studies for which this prestigious fellowship is given.

Aman Wadud who is from Assam and a Human Rights advocate has been selected for Fulbright Nehru Master’s Fellowship for the year 2021 to 2022. He is practicing at the Gauhati High court. Aman who is an advocate defends people who are abused of being illegal migrants.

He fights for the rights of people who are detained and are staying in the detention centers which are in Assam. Aman received a fellowship and he will be pursuing LLM in the United States.

The Fulbright Nehru Master’s fellowships are given to Indians who belong to the areas of arts and culture which in turn includes the areas of Economics, Environmental Studies, Museum studies, international legal studies, public administration, health, etc.,

Aman shared that he wants to make a difference in the lives of people and help those who are not able to raise voice for themselves.

He further said that he wants to start a campaign addressing the issue of growing statelessness which is taking place in Assam. He wants to ensure that the people of Assam live a dignified life.

For the past 6 years, Aman has addressed a total of 300 cases and fought for them. He even took an active part in helping people to educate themselves about the NRC I.e., National Register for Citizen.

He has been organizing the training programs related to the work of lawyers. He said that his initiative is to help the poor by providing them with legal aid.

The people who are detained will be able to pay 5000 rupees instead of One lakh and the detention period is reduced too Due to the efforts of Aman.

Aman was invited to Harvard Kennedy School to Speak on Citizenship and statelessness. He said that he was happy that he got the opportunity and the fellowship and wish that others too will work hard to help others and make a better society.
