South African Fast bowler Wayne Parnell Reverted To Islam, Changed his Name To Waleed.

Former South Africa’s fast bowler Wayne Parnell attracted to Islam and converted his religion from Christian to Islam. The reports were that his friend Hashim Amla was responsible for his decision. However, the team manager had cleared that there is no part of either Amla and Tahir in Parnell’s decision.

Wayne said it was his personal decision and had nothing to do with the other teammates. Wayne changed his name to Waleed after changing his religion. Wayne converted to Islam on the 30th of July in 2011.

Yousuf Youhana was born in a Christian family. He converted to Islam after attending regular preaching sessions of Tablighi Jamaat in 2005-2006 and changed his name from Youhana to Mohammad Yousuf. His wife converted along with him and changed her name from Tania to Fatima. The news was kept private for few months due to family issues and announced publicly in September 2005.

However, later after converting to Islam, he was spotted with a beard. He also said this was his own decision to practice Islam.

3. Tillakaratne Dilshan:

The opening batsman of Sri Lanka Tillakaratne Dilshan was born into a Muslim family and left Islam at the age of 16. His name was Taiwan Mohammad Dilshan. He converted to Buddhism from Islam.

He changed his religion after the separation of their parents. He changed his religion to that of his mother- Buddhism. Later his initial TM have stood for Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage.

4. Suraj Randiv:

A Sri Lankan cricket player Suraj was born into a Muslim family and later converted to Buddhism in the year 2010. His name was Mohammad Masruk Suraj which was then changed to Suraj Randiv after adopting Buddhism.

35-year-old Suraj played more than fifty international matches for Sri Lanka.

5. Mahmudul Hasan:

A Bangladeshi player after Sri Lankan, Pakistani players decided to change their religion. Bangladesh’s 29-year-old Mahmudul Hasan left Islam and converted to Hinduism. He changed his name to Vikash Ranjan Das.

He played one test match for the team with the name Mahmudul Hasan, later surprisingly he changed his name and never played for the team after that.

6. Vinod Kambli:

Vinod Kambli was born in a Hindu family in Pune, Maharashtra, and was a brilliant cricketer. He married a Christian girl in 1998, they divorced. He again married a Christian girl and converted to Christian himself. However, he said this was his personal decision and he still respects every religion.

He was a childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar. He played more than a hundred international matches for the team.

7. A.G Kripal Singh:

Indian cricket player Kripal Singh was the first cricketer to change his religion. Born in a Sikh family, Kripal Singh converted to Christianity for marriage. In the middle of his career, he fell in love with a Christian girl and adopted Christianity to marry her.

He changed his name from A.G Kripal Singh to Arnold George. He also stopped wearing Turban and removed his beard.    

8. Bikash Ranjan Das

Bikash Ranjan Das is a Bangladeshi Cricketer born in Dhaka in 1982 in Hindu religion, but later converted to Islam and changed his name to Mahmudur Rahman Rana. He batted with right and bowled with the left hand, and was in the team when Bangladesh played its first-ever test match in the year 2000 against India in his hometown Dhaka.
